MG Windsor EV: The electric vehicle tsunami in India is getting bigger every day, and MG Motor India has been one such player that has consistently been pushing the barriers in this space.
Having done a good business with offerings such as the ZS EV and the recently unveiled Comet EV, the carmaker is all set to raise the bar in the premium MPV segment with its brand new MG Windsor EV.
Billed as a high-tech electric people mover of the future, the Windsor EV is supposed to marry the notion of fume-free motoring with luxury, comfort and practicality.
So what is the MG Windsor EV all about? Let’s take a closer look as to why this car could be the game changer in the electric MPV segment.
MG Windsor EV Elegant and Futuristic Design
The MG Windsor EV’s design mirrors an up-to-date thinking, with its high tech looks. The exterior is clean but aggressive, predominantly owing to a prominent front fascia and blocked-out grille associated with electric cars.
It looks even more future ready thanks to LED DRLs, a sleek headlamp setup and a rounded aerodynamic profile.
Unlike boxy M.P.V.s of yore, the Windsor has flowing lines and premium finishes that provide it with the sensation of a high-end electric van.
Both sides of the vehicle feature sliding doors and flush door handles to promote accessibility and enhance overall convenience, particularly in confined parking areas or hectic city streets.
INTERIOR ROOMINESS WITH THE FEEL OF LUXURY
Get inside and the MG Windsor EV immediately exudes ‘luxury lounge’ vibes. It’s a 6- or 7-seater MPV featuring captain seats with recline, leather seats, soft-touch materials and ambient lighting to enhance the on-board experience.
Thanks to a flat EV floor and some inside space wizardry the cabin is huge.
It adds a level of class that is rare for an electric mini-MPV with a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and power seats with memory function all available.
The techy profile is rounded out with a massive touchscreen infotainment system, full digital instrument cluster and wireless charging pad, while rear passengers have to fight over individual climate vents and USB ports, and are pampered with even entertainment screens in higher trims.
Power and Smooth Ride
The Windsor EV of the future will reportedly come equipped with 70-80 kWh battery pack which provides a 400-450 km single charge range under ideal driving conditions.
With ample torque available from the electric motor, it provides a smooth, silent ride that is perfect for a chauffeur driven owner or a self-driver.
Its regenerative brake system enhances driving efficiency and several drive modes facilitate performance based on the road or driver preference.
Even though it’s a big MPV, the Windsor feels quite at ease on city roads and sinks its teeth into highways without a care in the world, and in town, is quite easy to get around in too primarily because of its light steering and just about all-right turning radius.
Charging and Safety
MG has also incorporated rapid-charging capability which means the Windsor EV can be taken from 0 to 80% in 45 minutes using a DC fast charger.
AC wall box for home charging will also be included and provide building block for daily charging convenience at the home.
Safety is also a key focus. Standard safety equipment on the Windsor EV includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, rear parking sensors, and ADAS Level 2 functions such as: lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.
