MG Astor: MG Astor The MG Astor is a standout in the intensely contested compact SUV arena for its combination of bold styling and premium features, and there is something that very few others in its price range offer – Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the cabin.
Now MG has lined up the Astor to be a smart SUV – not the one that just takes from point A to point B but keeps you engaged and helps you on the move. It competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq, but makes a mark with a features and tech-first approach.
Here’s what the MG Astor has to offer, and where it could be better.
MG Astor Design –

A European flavoured design characterises the MG Astor, lending it an elegant and sporty appeal. At the front-rounded off by the celestial grille, sharp LED headlamps, and LED DRLs – lending the Tucson a taut and high-class look.
The bumper and fog lamp housing have been well integrated, and the inlaid detailing on the chrome elements is evidence of MG’s endeavour to keep up to the minute with styling trends.
Viewed from the side, the 17-inch alloy wheels and roof rails combine with the strong shoulder lines to give it a stocky but stylish appearance. At the back, the LED tail-lamps and chiselled tailgate gives it a nice luxurious look.
Desgin-wise, the Astor is more premium on the whole than most of its rivals in its price range.
Inside – Smart, Roomy and Nice Looking
Enter it, and the Astor becomes instantly upmarket and tech-savvy. The interior is a nice place to be with soft-touch materials covering pretty much every surface, and the dashboard is clean but still quite attractive.
The use of dual-tone Sangria Red leatherette or Iconic Ivory in the cabin on top trims will even lend your interior a luxury, high-end feel.
At the center of the cabin is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display that provides Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality.
Underneath is a fully digital 7-inch instrument cluster that presents navigation and car info in a tidy, contemporary layout.
The most novel aspect, however, is a AI assistant that’s mounted on the dashboard and can respond to voice commands, share weather updates and, even tell jokes. That gives the Astor a mod, interactive vibe that’s unique in this class.
Performance – Well-Rounded and Urban-friendly
Powering The MG Astor is available with:
A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (110 PS, 144 Nm) paired with a 5-speed MT or a CVT
1.3-litre turbo-petrol (140 PS/220 Nm) with 6-speed automatic
The naturally aspirated engine is well-matched to urban driving and throttle response is seamless. If you want an extra punch for highway passes or optimistic driving, then it will be a turbo, which provides quick pace and linear power.
Its suspension is designed for comfort, and does an excellent job of soaking up bumps and potholes, and its steering is light at low speeds and suitably firm at high speeds.
Mileage – Decent for Petrol SUV.
Gas mileage is good, though not class-topping:
1.5 NA Manual/CVTI – Approximately 14 – 16 kmpl
1.3 Turbo Automatic: Approximately 12–14 kmpl
Not the best in the segment for fuel consumption, mind, but the figures are par for the course for an SUV of such performance and equipment.
Features and Safety

AI Assistant with voice assistance

6 airbags (in top trims)

Phone-as-a-key (on some trims)
Even the least fancy versions are a pretty good deal with a decent helping of necessary tech and convenience.
Pros:

Quality feel of the interior with soft-touch materials
Top varitey of advanced safety features including ADAS
Cons:

Priced for Turbo variant on the higher side
